Victor Osimhen: Only genuine Man Utd transfer rival revealed as Liverpool, Chelsea ruled out

Manchester United will be one of only two clubs who appeal to Victor Osimhen when it comes to the Napoli striker choosing his next step, it has been claimed.

Osimhen was the top scorer in Serie A this season, helping Napoli to win the league title. With only two years remaining on his contract there, though, there have been doubts about his future. Napoli will be bracing themselves for interest in him after what he has achieved for them.

Man Utd are one of the teams to be most frequently linked with Osimhen. They need a new striker after allowing Cristiano Ronaldo to leave in November and only using a loan deal for Wout Weghorst from Burnley to replace him.

With Weghorst on his way out, Man Utd have a void to fill up front. Osimhen would be one of the most high-profile names they could attract, although it would be an expensive deal in the region of €150m (£129m).

Indeed, TEAMtalk recently revealed that Man Utd had put Osimhen’s name to one side in their search for a new striker due to the high asking price Napoli are requesting.

However, comments from a former Napoli player may have given Man Utd the shot in the arm they need to reignite their pursuit of Osimhen.

According to Salvatore Bagni, Osimhen would have no interest in joining clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea, nor other options like Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

But Man Utd would be a concrete destination to consider along with one other, the ex-midfielder has claimed.

Victor Osimhen destinations narrowed down

“Osimhen won’t return to France because he has already played there, the same thing in Germany,” Bagni told Tele A recently.

“He won’t go to Liverpool or Chelsea because they aren’t playing in the Champions League.

“From all the squads linked with him, for me he would only go to Manchester United and Real Madrid. The other teams won’t interest him.”

Like Man Utd, Real Madrid are searching for a new centre-forward this summer. Whoever they sign will have bigger boots to fill than a new Man Utd arrival, since Los Blancos are having to replace Karim Benzema after the Ballon d’Or winner’s move to Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

Osimhen began his career in Germany with Wolfsburg before a loan spell in Belgium with Charleroi. From there, he went to Lille in France until he earned his move to Napoli in 2020.

For his current club, the Nigeria international has scored a total of 59 goals from 101 games – including 31 from 39 in the season just gone.

Still only 24 years old, Osimhen looks destined to enjoy plenty of time at the highest level. Whether Napoli will relax their demands this summer, though – as they already prepare to lose another key member of their title-winning squad in the shape of Kim Min-jae from their defence – remains to be seen.
