Tottenham transfers: Perfect Hojbjerg replacement to snub Juventus and join Postecoglou revolution

Franck Kessie and Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona

Tottenham could be bolstered by a new midfield addition this summer after a top Barcelona star reportedly revealed he is willing to snub Juventus and move to north London instead.

Ange Postecoglou is still looking to strengthen all areas of his team ahead of the new Premier League season, although defence and midfield are the two areas drawing the most attention.

The Australian wants two new centre-backs but his chase for his top targets is so far proving a problematic one.

Indeed, the latest report on Bayer Leverkusen star Edmond Tapsoba claims that while the club are still working on a transfer, the player’s €45million exit fee remains an issue.

As for midfield, experienced campaigner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg continues to be linked with a switch to Atletico Madrid – a move that would leave a fairly big hole to fill in the Spurs engine room.

The Dane has been a constant presence under successive Tottenham managers but his style of play does not really suit the all-action approach that Postecoglou wants in north London.

And with Rodrigo Bentancur still on the sidelines and Yves Bissouma suffering a suspected foot injury in the latest pre-season outing another body will most definitely be needed.

That is where Barca star Franck Kessie comes in, with the former Milan star a long-term target for Spurs.

The Ivory Coast international was a major target for Tottenham before he swapped the San Siro for the Nou Camp last summer.

And, according to Sport, he would rather head to the Premier League than back to Italy with Juve before the window shuts.

The report adds that the Catalan giants have set their asking price at €15m, although Juventus are currently negotiating an initial loan deal with an option to buy.

To that end, Tottenham will need to make a quick decision on Kessie for fear of losing out on the player again.

The 26-year-old scored 41 goals in 204 Serie A games playing for Milan and Atalanta but struggled at Barca, scoring three times in 43 outings for Xavi’s men.

Tottenham are not back in pre-season action until August 6 when they take on Shakhtar Donetsk in north London.
