Newcastle ‘preparing to make staggering offer’ to sign £61m-rated Bundesliga midfielder

eipzig's Christopher Nkunku celebrates his goal with Leipzig's Dominik Szoboszlai to make it 1:2.

Newcastle are reportedly ‘preparing to make a staggering offer’ to sign a top Bundesliga midfielder this summer as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen his starting XI ahead of the club’s Champions League return.

The Toon boss is expected to be handed significant funds this summer to give the club the best possible chance of competing across the Premier League and in Europe.

One area of the pitch that Howe is keen to bolster is his engine room, with Newcastle linked with a number of players.

And one of those linked is RB Leipzig star Dominik Szoboszlai, who is rumoured to be interested in a switch to St James’ Park.

The Hungary international has been a name linked with the club for some time now, but L’Equipe suggests that the move ‘is on its way’.

That is largely down to the fact that Leipzig are trying to sign Szoboszlai’s replacement in the shape of Lens star Lois Openda, with the French side already turning down two offers for their midfielder.

The report adds that Newcastle are now ready to make their interest in Szoboszlai concrete, with a big offer around the corner for the 22-year-old.

The midfielder scored six goals and added a further eight assists in 31 league games for Leipzig last season.

Lens then fear that a big offer for Szoboszlai will give the German side the necessary funds to snap up Openda.
