Superior Man Utd defender wanted at West Ham as Moyes presents three-man wishlist to board

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Amad Diallo

David Moyes wants West Ham to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United this summer, a report has claimed.

Wan-Bissaka stands out as one of the best defensive full-backs in the world. However, he has had to fight for his place at Man Utd this season. Erik ten Hag has generally preferred to field Diogo Dalot in his position.

Over time, Wan-Bissaka has earned more opportunities under the Dutch tactician. Yet his future in Manchester is still up for question, since his contract is only due to last for another season.

Man Utd have the option to extend it until 2025, or they could negotiate a brand new deal with him to last longer. But the prospect of selling Wan-Bissaka could also be under consideration.

The fact that Man Utd have been linked with some other right-backs – such as Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong – might be a clue that Wan-Bissaka’s future could lie elsewhere.

According to the Daily Mail, West Ham are ready to step up their interest in the right-back. Wan-Bissaka’s name features on a three-man wishlist that Moyes has presented to the east London club’s board.

That’s despite reports elsewhere indicating that the manager has actually decided to leave West Ham in the summer.

If Moyes is indeed still planning for next season at West Ham – as he has publicly declared – then Wan-Bissaka will be one of his main targets.

Moyes wants reinforcements across West Ham defence

Improving in defence is a priority for West Ham after their slide down the Premier League table over the past year. For one, Moyes could view Wan-Bissaka as a replacement for Vladimir Coufal, who is still waiting to see if the Hammers will activate their option to extend his contract from 2023 to 2025.

Moyes can also call upon Ben Johnson and Thilo Kehrer at right-back. However, he seems to have faith that Wan-Bissaka (who has made 158 appearances for Man Utd, including 32 this season) would be more reliable than any of them.

However, he will have to fend off competition from Wan-Bissaka’s former club Crystal Palace – who let Man Utd have him for £50m four years ago – to sign the 25-year-old.

It is also on Moyes’ agenda to strengthen at centre-back, which has led him to recommend the signing of either Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen or Max Kilman from Wolves.

Kilman might be a more realistic target, the report suggests, despite it meaning West Ham would have to do business with another Premier League side close to them in this season’s table.
