Tottenham way under perfect Prem star’s valuation, as Daniel Levy forced to consider alternatives

Tottenham are in the market for a goalkeeper this summer, but they are reportedly way off on their valuation of a Premier League target.

Hugo Lloris has been a fine shot-stopper over the years, but his time in North London is now coming to an end.

After 447 appearances for Spurs, the club are now seeking his replacement. Given Lloris is 36 years old, they are searching for a younger alternative.

Plenty of goalkeepers have been linked so far, but Brentford’s David Raya remains as a primary target.

Indeed, the Spanish goalkeeper had an excellent performance against Spurs recently as Brentford claimed a 3-1 victory on the road.

It was recently revealed that Brentford value Raya at around £40million. However, the Daily Mail have claimed that Spurs want to sign him for just £20million.

Daniel Levy is well-known to be one of the toughest negotiators in the business. Although even he would do well to talk Brentford down from their £40m asking price.

Raya’s contract runs until 2024 and he has so far rejected any offers of an extension from the club. With the player seemingly gearing up for the move, Levy will do his best to talk Brentford down.

Transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport: “Raya looks pretty certain to move and now that Brentford are making new goalkeeper plans it’s just a case of finding his new home.”

The goalkeeper has kept 11 clean sheets in the Premier League and boasts an impressive save percentage of 77.4%.

Spurs have alternative options

While Raya remains a primary target for Tottenham, they do have other options in mind. Over the past few weeks, they have been linked with plenty of other goalkeepers.

Along with Chelsea, they have been interested in Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana. The shot-stopper has had an eye-catching campaign and has played a crucial role in Inter reaching the Champions League final.

In Serie A this year he has kept eight clean sheets and has an impressive save percentage of 75%. His contract in Italy runs until 2027 and so Inter hold all of the cards right now.

A surprising link recently emerged with Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. The 31-year-old could be a victim to Chelsea’s brutal summer clearout.

Mendy has fallen down the pecking order this season and a summer exit looks more than likely. Injuries and a loss of form have seen Kepa Arrizabalaga take his starting spot this year.

Despite his lack of game time recently, Mendy is still a top goalkeeper when at his best. He would also be the cheapest of the three goalkeepers Spurs are considering.

His contract at Stamford Bridge runs until 2025, but he has rejected any offers of an extension as he is considering his next move.

Tottenham certainly aren’t short of options when it comes to goalkeeper targets, but it remains to be seen if they are willing to splash out on Raya as a primary target.
