Tottenham transfers: Big swap deal gains traction as Postecoglou closes in on LaLiga central defender

Tottenham appear to be closing in on a swap deal that will involve a midfielder heading to Spain, with Ange Postecoglou getting a new centre-back on board in north London.

The Australian has made the addition of potentially two new central defenders one of his main priorities this summer after seeing Spurs struggle at the back, particularly in the second half of last term.

Former record signing Davinson Sanchez is expected to be sold this summer, while there is speculation that the club could also say goodbye to Eric Dier after almost 10 years at Tottenham.

Christian Romero remains the club’s best central defender but even the World Cup winner was way off his best after tasting glory in Qatar.

That has led to Postecoglou making sure that he fixes a weak back line, and even though Barcelona loanee Clement Lenglet was not a consistent starter at Spurs last season – it appears that the club are ready to make his move permanent.

The France international showed glimpses of his quality in north London and it appears that was enough to secure him a contract.

And, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barca are willing to give the nod to the deal as long as they receive Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso in a swap.

The Argentine, who has also been linked with Aston Villa, impressed on loan at Villarreal last term but is not expected to return there for a third spell this summer.

Although it’s expected he will get the chance to show Postecoglou what he can do in pre-season, along with a number of other returning loan players, there is a growing feeling that Lo Celso will finally be sold.

Xavi wants Lo Celso on board at Nou Camp

The Catalan giants are looking to take advantage of Lo Celso‘s struggles in north London, with a cut-price permanent deal or another loan possible.

Barca boss Xavi wants another midfielder adding to his squad at the Nou Camp but craves one with an attacking intent such as Lo Celso.

And, as negotiations between the two clubs continue to progress over Lenglet, it appears that some form of swap deal makes sense for both parties.

At this stage, it’s not reported in any move is involved in the proposal, with Lo Celso considered a more valuable asset than Lenglet.

The transfer is also unlikely to go down well with Tottenham fans, who were not overly impressed with the defender last season.

Lo Celso is also a player who has been somewhat harshly treated since his move to north London, given his creative qualities so lacking in the current Spurs engine room.
