Ex-Madrid Spurs man speaks on possibility of club luring Ramos

Sergio Ramos TEAMtalk

A Tottenham summer signing has commented on the possibility of the club bringing in Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos.

While Gareth Bale’s return to Spurs took the headlines, Sergio Reguilon also swapped the Spanish capital for the English one.

The left-back, 24, secured a £28million switch to London during the summer.

Reguilon has played 16 games for Tottenham since his arrival, providing three assists.

Speaking to AS, Reguilon touched on the current situation surrounding former teammate and Real captain Sergio Ramos.

The defender’s contract with the Spanish giants runs out this summer. However, he is poised to sign a new deal with the club, according to Goal.

When asked about sending a last-ditch message to Ramos about a potential move to Spurs, Reguilon said: “I don’t think he’d take much notice!”

“I think it will all be resolved in the end – both for Madrid and Sergio. From the outside, I cannot envisage Madrid without Ramos.”

When asked whether he would consider a move back to Madrid himself, the defender replied: “I don’t know.”

He continued: “Whenever I am asked about Real Madrid I say that it’s a club which gave me everything, it’s always been my home.

“Returning one day? That doesn’t depend on me. I’m focused on the present, but it would be nice to go back in the future.”

Reguilon admitted that he had no contact with Real boss Zinedine Zidane prior to his departure.

It was made clear he was not part of his plans having spent the 2019/20 season out on loan at Sevilla.

Bale an ‘important player’ for Tottenham

Bale was similarly frozen out of first team plans prior to his loan move to Tottenham.

Reguilon went on to comment on his teammate’s progress since his headline-breaking move back to Spurs.

“He’s had a difficult year, but we all know the quality he has – he’s going to be a massively important player for us,” he said.

“He’s had a few twinges and little by little he is getting used to the rhythm of the Premier League again.”

Bale has played 11 games for Spurs this campaign, netting in three of those matches.

Reguilon’s attention now turns to Saturday when his side is set to take on Leeds United.

Their game against Fulham was called off at the last hour due to Covid-19-related issues on Wednesday evening.
