Reason for Man Utd transfer collapse revealed as ‘arrogant’ star snubs European move

Manchester United star Donny van de Beek saw his deal with a European club collapse due to his attitude according to a recent report.

It’s no secret that Man Utd were looking to offload several stars this summer. Erik ten Hag managed to shift some of the deadwood, but several unwanted stars have stuck around.

The club tried to shift the likes of Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly and Van de Beek although this ultimately proved difficult for the club in the end.

Van de Beek didn’t feature much under Ten Hag last season as the 26-year-old spent a large portion of the season on the sidelines.

The midfielder only started in two Premier League games last season and a move this summer would have made sense for the club and player.

However, despite the reported interest in the midfielder, a move didn’t go through in the end. It has recently been revealed that the French side Lorient tried to sign him, but the deal quickly collapsed.

According to L’Equipe, the French side didn’t appreciate the players ‘arrogance’ and ‘general attitude’ towards the potential move and so the deal ultimately collapsed.

This now leaves the Dutch midfielder in a tricky spot as he isn’t likely to get much game time under Ten Hag this season. He is under contract at Old Trafford until 2025 with the option of an extra year in his contract.

Summer exit is still possible

While Van de Beek’s move to Lorient has ultimately collapsed, a move could still be on the cards for the 26-year-old this summer. The Premier League transfer window has now shut, but other European sides are still able to sign players.

The Turkish transfer window is still open for example and a potential move to Galatasaray could still be an option for the midfielder.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the Turkish giants remain in talks over signing Van de Beek despite the English transfer window closing.

Galatasaray are still able to sign players until September 8 which gives them a few more days to negotiate a deal for the Man Utd star.

While the midfielder doesn’t seem to be in Ten Hag’s plans for the future, he could still be of use to a side like Galatasaray.

He showed some glimpses of quality during pre-season for Man Utd and delivered an open-ended answer when quizzed over his future.

“There’s still a chance I move, but we’re keeping it open,” the midfielder told MUTV while discussing his return from injury.

“I think it makes you mentally stronger. If this kind of moment happens, you realise how much you love playing football. And when you are back on the pitch you enjoy it more, but of course you have to work really hard.”

Man Utd will be keen to shift Van de Beek off the wage bill and they will be hoping that Galatasaray are able to agree a deal in the coming days.
