Rasmus Hojlund: Man Utd signing ‘strong number nine’ as Christian Eriksen shares true expectations

Christian Eriksen has given his verdict on Man Utd signing Rasmus Hojlund

Fellow Denmark international Christian Eriksen has explained exactly what Man Utd can expect from their incoming new striker, Rasmus Hojlund.

Man Utd have agreed a fee with Atalanta to sign Hojlund as their new centre-forward. Therefore, he will soon be able to embark on his first venture in the Premier League. As a focal point for their attack, Hojlund will take over from last season’s loanee Wout Weghorst at Man Utd.

A prospect for the long term, Hojlund will arrive at Old Trafford with just 27 goals to his name from his club career to date, between spells with Copenhagen, Sturm Graz and Atalanta.

But after scoring six goals in six senior caps for the Denmark national team, there is evidence that Hojlund has a high ceiling.

Current Man Utd midfielder Eriksen has already shared a pitch with Hojlund at international level. Therefore, he has shed some light on what Man Utd can expect when they link up on the club stage.

“What’s he like? He’s a strong number nine,” Eriksen told the Press Association.

“He’s developed a lot in the last year from when I first saw him with the national team (to) a year’s time, so, yeah, he’s a very good player.”

Despite his high price tag, Hojlund is not as high profile as some of the other strikers Man Utd were linked with earlier in the summer, such as Napoli’s Victor Osimhen or Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

But Eriksen believes that is merely because of a lack of a spotlight on Danish football.

“I suppose we don’t get enough media attention in Denmark that’s why, so people outside Denmark don’t know enough,” Eriksen explained.

“He’s a nice guy, he’s a good player. Like I said, he’s developed, turning into just a nine, which he’s played for the national team.

“I have to be honest I haven’t seen that many games for Atalanta, but I know how they play and he fitted in well there, so, yeah, he’s a good player.”

Hojlund has received Eriksen advice about Man Utd

Eriksen also used to play in Serie A for Inter, but that was before Hojlund went there with Atalanta. Thus, their paths have – until now – only crossed on Denmark duties.

On those occasions, though, there have been previous talks between the pair about life on the red half of Manchester.

“Not recently,” Eriksen replied when asked if Hojlund had questioned him about Man Utd.

“I spoke to him when we were with the national team last time.

“But of course, I’ve said a lot of good stuff – and also said some bad stuff – but in the end it’s what’s going to happen.”
