Real Madrid invoke Ramos pay cut so they can pay Bale

Gareth Bale TEAMtalk

Real Madrid’s insistence that Sergio Ramos takes a pay cut is so that the club can continue to pay Gareth Bale next season, claims a report.

The Covid-19 pandemic has hammered the LaLiga giants with a loss of €106m in revenue for the 2019/20 financial year.

They did not sign anyone in the summer and their wage budge has reduced by more than €200m this season.

That in part has been due to Bale’s loan deal to Tottenham. Both Real Madrid and Tottenham are believed to be splitting his £27m salary equally.

According to AS, the year-long deal has no automatic option for a further extension, but Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett said there was a possibility that Bale could stay if things go well.

That has not been the case though, with four goals in 15 games, but just two Premier League starts.

The Spanish paper claim “Mourinho is fed up with the Welshman”.

Indeed Mourinho was forced to speak about Bale after the Spurs loanee posted on Instagram: “Good session today.”

Mourinho was far from happy.

He said: “I have to admit that his post created a need of being addressed. There was a contradiction between the post and the reality.”

Thus, Tottenham “do not want to hear about a second year on loan”.

A look ahead to the Premier League game between West Brom and Man Utd, including stats on form, possession, shots, cards, corners, top scorers and previous meetings.

That of course means Real will be liable for Bale’s £27m salary in 2021/22 or pay the 31-year-old up.

It has led to a knock-on effect regarding the renewal of Ramos’ contract. The Spanish giants are in talks to renew the centre-back’s contract before it expires at the end of the season.

Man Utd chase Ramos

However, they are requesting Ramos takes a pay cut so that they can pay Bale, according to AS.

Ramos, 34, has been with Los Blancos since joining from Sevilla in the summer of 2005. Already a legend, he has notched up 668 appearances in all competitions and hit an amazing 100 goals.

Contract talks though have not gone smoothly and his decision to undergo surgery at a critical time in the season has many claiming his time in Madrid is up.

Ramos will be a free agent in the summer and Manchester United reportedly head the queue for his signature.

Don Balon have claimed his brother, Rene, is planning a trip to Manchester with United reportedly lining up a £200,000 per week deal after on a two-year contract.
