Chelsea are plotting a summer move for two of Brentford’s most important players, Ivan Toney and David Raya, according to reports.

The Bees defeated Frank Lampard’s struggling Blues side 2-0 on Wednesday night, with the duo putting in admirable performances.

Now, with Chelsea set to undergo something of a squad revamp this summer, they could look to sign both Toney and Raya.

As noted by TEAMtalk, Mauricio Pochettino is expected to take charge of Chelsea next season. As a result, it is believed that the ex-Tottenham boss has already drawn up a provisional transfer shortlist.

According to a report from Football Londontwo of the names on his list are Toney and Raya, who have been excellent for Brentford.

This season, Toney has scored 19 goals in 31 Premier League appearances. This means only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane have scored more than him this term.

Chelsea are certainly in need of a goal scorer, too, given they have netted just 31 times in 33 matches so far – by far the least of any of the other ‘big six’ teams.

Toney gambling charges could be a concern for Chelsea

However, while there is no doubting Toney’s ability – the controversy surrounding him could make signing him a risk.

In November, the 27-year-old was charged with 232 alleged betting breaches between 2017 and 2021, and another 30 a month later.

The 27-year-old admitted to many of the charges but contested others, and could be banned for a minimum of six months.

Moreover, Toney is thought to have a value of approximately £50m. With that in mind, Chelsea would no doubt be furious to pay a big fee and then be without him for a large portion of next season.

As a result, Pochettino could, in fact, decide against a move for Toney this summer. Although, Football London’s report does suggest otherwise.

Chelsea eye Raya swoop

A move for Raya, though, could be a great it of business for Chelsea. Especially with Pochettino reportedly keen to bring in a new keeper to compete for Kepa Arrizabalaga’s starting spot.

Edouard Mendy is also surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, so it seems almost certain the Blues will be bringing in a new shot-stopper.

Raya has been outstanding for Brentford this season. Overall, he has helped his team to 10 clean sheets in the Premier League. This puts him sixth among the best-performing keepers in the division.

Indeed, the Spaniard has been a key reason for the Bees’ success, with the London club currently sitting in ninth place in the table.

Raya won’t come cheap either, though. The highly rated 27-year-old is valued at approximately £22m.

With that in mind, Chelsea could have to stump up around £72m for the Brentford duo this summer. Also, given how much they have spent this season, they may have to sell some of their players before they can do so.
