A former Arsenal player is excited at the prospect of them bringing in the ‘terrific’ Pedro Neto, though two more stars also need to be signed before the transfer window shuts.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Arsenal’s ‘transfer priority’ heading into the final week of the window is Wolves ace Neto. Talks have been going on for more than a month, as Arsenal liaise with agent Jorge Mendes about the potential signing.

The 22-year-old attacker will be expensive as Wolves don’t want to let him go. Plus, he has five years remaining on his contract at Molineux.

However, Arsenal’s interest in snaring Neto is ‘concrete’ and due to this a move could occur before September 2. After all, the Gunners may need a new winger if Nicolas Pepe leaves for French club Nice.

Frimpong, who made 16 appearances for Arsenal after graduating from their academy, has given his verdict on Neto’s possible arrival at the Emirates.

Frimpong thinks the switch would be a huge boost for Mikel Arteta as Neto is a ‘terrific player’. He also told the north London side to capture two midfielders, one of them being Leicester City star Youri Tielemans.

“I would like us to buy two more midfielders and a winger in the transfer window,” Frimpong said (via CaughtOffside). “The midfield is still lightweight. If [Thomas] Partey or [Granit] Xhaka get injured we are in big trouble.

“I woke up and saw that we were linked to Pedro Neto from Wolves. I think he is a terrific player. He is a very decisive player in one-to-one situations and that’s the type of player we need.

Pundit wants Tielemans to follow Pedro Neto to Arsenal

“I would like Youri Tielemans to join too. They are young players and that’s what Arsenal want. Both would make a big difference to the team.”

During a recent interview with The Times, Neto spoke about his desire to feature in Europe’s elite club competition. “The dream of any player is to play in the Champions League,” he said.

This gives Arsenal some hope of completing a deal for him as they are pursuing a return to the Champions League this season.

Capturing Neto and Tielemans would round off a fantastic summer of arrivals for Arsenal. They have already completed impressive moves for Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira.

The fact they are getting rid of £72m flop Pepe is another major positive. And replacing the Ivorian with an exciting, up-and-coming winger such as Neto would please Gunners fans.

Tielemans should be the priority for Arsenal right now though. As Frimpong states, the Arsenal midfield is their weak point. Signing Tielemans would immediately improve Arteta’s options in the centre of the park.

Meanwhile, Ainsley Maitland-Niles could leave Arsenal for a rival London club, as per the Daily Mail.
