Next Leeds manager: Ex-Prem boss ‘agrees’ terms, but star winger given greenlight to join Euro giant for £21.5m
Leeds Utd are on the cusp of appointing an ex-EPL boss as their next manager, though he’ll potentially have to make do without a star winger, per multiple reports.
The Whites will be desperate to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking after their three-year stint in the top flight came to a close last season.
A roll of the dice with Sam Allardyce simply did not work. Speculation the former England boss could take the reins again this season has since been laid to rest.
Instead, it was former Norwich and Borussia Monchengladbach boss, Daniel Farke, who emerged as the odds-on favourite to fill the hotseat.
According to both the Daily Mail and Sky Germany, Farke to Leeds is exactly what is about to transpire.
Indeed, Sky Germany tweeted that once the ‘last details have been clarified’, Farke ‘will sign his contract’ with Leeds in the ‘coming days’.
The Mail reported similar, though indicated Farke has already thrashed out an agreement with Leeds.
The newspaper claimed Leeds are ‘on the verge’ of appointing Farke who they hope to have in place by the time pre-season officially begins on Monday.
The Mail added Farke is ‘understood to have agreed terms’ and has already visited the club’s Thorp Arch training ground.
Farke last managed back in his home country of Germany with Monchengladbach. However, he’s perhaps best known for his time at Carrow Road with Norwich between 2017-21.
Farke twice helped Norwich win promotion to the Premier League, finishing first in the Championship on both occasions.
Norwich finished 20th during each of their returns to the top flight. However, Farke’s task at Leeds is simply to secure promotion and he has an excellent track record in that regard.
Sinisterra given go-ahead to leave Leeds
But while Farke to Leeds is unquestionably good news, the mood could soon be dampened amid reports Luis Sinisterra has the greenlight to leave.
Much was expected from the Colombia international upon arriving in a £21m deal from Feyenoord.
However, injuries ravaged his maiden season at Leeds and per TuttoMercatoWeb, Sinisterra could be a one and done at Eland Road.
TMW’s headline states Sinisterra ‘can leave’ Leeds Utd, while their article reaffirms the forward ‘is allowed’ to depart.
Sinisterra reportedly wants to play top flight football whether that be in England or further afield. To that end, Italian giant AC Milan have enquired into the details of a potential move, including how much he’ll cost.
€25m (approx. £21.5m) will reportedly be enough to seal a deal. If Leeds were to receive that amount, they’d at least be making a small profit on their initial outlay.
TMW stress there are no concrete negotiations between Leeds and Milan as yet.
However, Milan are circling and have room for one more non-EU registered player after wrapping up a €20m move for Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
