A Newcastle United target is said to be ‘very open’ to a move this summer as Eddie Howe plans to upgrade his Newcastle squad to the next level.

With Champions League football to contend with next season, Howe is keen to add to his options for next season.

Newcastle have had a tremendous 2022-23 campaign. Finishing fourth in the league and making it to the EFL Cup final was no easy feat.

With the financial backing now behind the club, Newcastle have already been linked with a variety of superstars from around the globe.

Dominik Szoboszlai is one star in particular who they have held an interest in for some time. Along with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, Howe’s side want to bring the winger to the Premier League.

As reported by Sport Witness, the RB Leipzig man is ‘very open’ to leaving the Bundesliga club this summer. With Newcastle keen on a move, this could be the ideal time to strike a deal.

The report also clarifies that Newcastle hold a ‘concrete interest’ in the player and that he is a ‘top transfer target’ for Newcastle this summer.

Szoboszlai has scored six goals and provided eight assists in the Bundesliga this season. He has predominately played as an attacking midfielder, although he can also play off either wing.

His release clause is said to be around €70m and he is under contract with RB Leipzig until 2026.

Given he is only 22 years old and highly adaptable, he seems like the perfect Howe player. With Champions League experience too, you can see why Newcastle are interested.

Eddie Howe outlines summer vision

Despite Newcastle having the ability to blow most sides out of the water with their financial power, Howe has insisted that the club will continue to carefully build.

The manager has reiterated that it is his main responsibility to get the best out of the players at his disposal as well as any new additions.

“All I can ever promise owners or the people above me that make the decisions financially on what we can or can’t do is that I will do my very best to develop every player,” he told talkSPORT when asked about the club’s budget.

“I will try my best to produce a style of football that the supporters will enjoy and will give everything then to try and win football matches.

“I don’t think you can do it where you go, ‘Give me that one player and this will happen.’ That’s not how I do it anyway. I try and identify the best players that we can, that you think can elevate the team and take us to the next level.”

A player like Szoboszlai would give Howe and his side an extra dynamic in the final third. Adding more creativity and firepower will be a must for Howe’s squad next season.

Of the sides who finished in the top six, only Manchester United scored fewer league goals than Newcastle. Szoboszlai would add to their attacking options for next season.
