Man Utd legend and former caretaker boss Michael Carrick in discussions over managerial vacancy
Manchester United legend Michael Carrick could take over as Lincoln City boss after reportedly entering preliminary talks with the club.
Carrick spent 12 years as a player at Old Trafford, where he made over 460 appearances and won a host of trophies. His accolades include five Premier League titles, one Champions League and one FA Cup.
The central midfielder retired in 2018 and soon became a coach with Manchester United.
He worked under Jose Mourinho and then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before the latter’s sacking in November.
After that, Carrick became caretaker manager prior to the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim boss.
During his brief three-match reign, Carrick helped Manchester United to record two wins and a draw.
He then opted to leave the Red Devils with immediate effect, in order to pursue a full-time managerial job.
And that role could come in the form of Lincoln. According to Football Insider, Carrick has held initial talks with the east Midlands outfit about becoming their next boss.

Lincoln, who finished 17th in League One this season, are on the hunt for a new manager. Michael Appleton left this position following the final match of the campaign.
Carrick is currently weighing up his options ahead of responding to Lincoln with a final decision.
He would not be the first United coach to link up with a club in the third tier. Kieran McKenna became Ipswich Town boss in December, and the Portman Road side went on to finish 11th.
Moving to Sincil Bank could be a good choice for Carrick. It would give him a chance to gain managerial experience away from the Premier League and Championship.
Plus, it could be argued the 40-year-old doesn’t have the resume to take on such a role.
Should he say yes to Lincoln, Carrick’s remit would likely be to get them back in the play-offs next term.
They finished fifth in 2020-21 but fell all the way down to 17th during the season just finished.
Elsewhere, new United head coach Erik ten Hag has reportedly met with his senior colleagues in Amsterdam on Thursday to discuss the club’s strategy going forward.
