Manchester United are set to enter contract talks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the club are keen to tie the defender down to a new deal.

With the summer transfer window now coming to a close, Erik ten Hag can now turn his attention to the players at this disposal. Despite some bumps in the road, Man Utd had a productive window in the end.

They managed to strengthen the spine of their squad and also managed to offload some deadwood by selling the likes of Alex Telles, Eric Bailly and Dean Henderson.

Ten Hag will be aware that several players are now entering the final year of their contract at Old Trafford and the Dutch boss seems keen to tie down Wan-Bissaka to a fresh deal.

The 25-year-old joined Man United in the summer of 2019 for a fee of up to £50m. He’s had to fight for his place under Ten Hag as the Dutch boss initially had Diogo Dalot above him in the pecking order.

Since breaking back into the first team under Ten Hag, Wan-Bissaka hasn’t put a foot wrong and it looks as if he will be rewarded with a fresh contract.

According to The Telegraph, Man Utd have ‘opened talks’ with the 25-year-old over a new long-term contract. Wan-Bissaka is now in the final year of his contract with the club, although they do have the option to extend his deal by a further year.

New deal makes sense

Wan-Bissaka has proven himself to be a consistent performer under Ten Hag and the club will be protecting his long-term value by offering him a fresh deal.

The defender had been linked with a move away this summer, but ultimately these links didn’t amount to anything. Both Wolves and Crystal Palace had been linked, but Wan-Bissaka is solely focused on Man Utd.

He has started in all four Premier League matches so far this season and has clearly gained the trust of Ten Hag over time.

In a recent interview with MUTV, the 25-year-old praised Ten Hag and Dalot for pushing him to become a better defender.

“It’s been good, especially for myself. I’ve learned a lot under him. And there’s more to come, more improvement to be done. So, yeah, I’m happy. He’s helped the team. You can see the team’s transition has changed.

“I think it helps a lot when you have someone competing for the same position as you. It pushes you more. We both want to play and we’ll push and fight each other to get there. And that will help in the long run.”
