Man Utd or Newcastle tipped to sign 11-goal Serie A sensation ‘soon’ after he ‘rejects new contract’

Adrien Rabiot of Juventus

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot has reportedly rejected a contract extension, as he looks to make a switch to the Premier League this summer.

The France international is a key target for both Manchester United and Newcastle, so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in the race to sign him.

Rabiot’s current deal is set to expire at the end of June and he will become a free agent. Therefore, he will be a major bargain for someone this summer.

As previously reported by TEAMtalk, both Man Utd and Newcastle have ‘made contact’ with Rabiot’s entourage.

Indeed, it’s no secret that both Erik ten Hag and Eddie Howe are looking to bolster their midfield options ahead of next season.

Both clubs are believed to have offered Rabiot a ‘significant contract’ as they look to convince him to ditch Italy for the Premier League.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Rabiot has rejected a contract extension from Juventus and will decide his next club ‘soon.’ Now, it looks like it will be a straight battle between Man Utd and Newcastle in the race to sign him.

Man Utd, Newcastle battling for Rabiot

Last season, Rabiot made 48 appearances across all competitions for Juventus. In the process, he scored 11 goals and made six assists.

A dynamic midfielder, the 28-year-old has the ability to play in a defensive or attacking role. So, it’s clear to see why Man Utd and Newcastle are keen to sign him.

Also, Ten Hag could lose two key midfielders this summer. Indeed, Scott McTominay is heavily linked with a departure from Man Utd for some time. And, Fred is reportedly of interest to Fulham, with the Red Devils happy to sell him this summer.

As a result, the manager will have to bring in at least one new midfielder to replace them. Rabiot is certainly a good, cheap option, too, with plenty of experience at the highest level.

Newcastle, on the other hand, are also focusing at reinforcing their midfield this summer.

Interestingly, Rabiot isn’t the only Serie A star Howe has his eye on at the moment. The Magpies have reportedly made an offer of £42.9m for AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali.

The 23-year-old is widely considered to be one of the best young defensive midfielders in Europe. So, he would be a great signing for Newcastle.

However, Milan have responded by slapping a £68m price tag on Tonali. So, Newcastle may now put all their efforts into signing Rabiot instead.

With Rabiot’s contract set to expire in the very soon, he is definitely a player for Man Utd and Newcastle fans to keep an eye on for the next couple of weeks.
