Manchester United have made contact with Tottenham over a deal for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as Erik ten Hag looks to add to his midfield options.

With time running out in this transfer window, Ten Hag is currently considering several options in midfield. Man Utd do lack depth in this area and they have been after a new holding midfielder all summer.

Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has been a long-term target for Ten Hag’s side, but they are yet to agree a deal with the Italian club.

As several sides are in the race for Amrabat, Ten Hag has been forced to consider some alternative options. Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch is an option and so is Tottenham’s Hojbjerg.

The Danish midfielder was expected to leave Spurs earlier this summer, but his move to Atletico Madrid fell through. Despite a deal being in place, personal terms couldn’t be agreed upon.

While the midfielder has featured in a couple of matches under Ange Postecoglou so far, he could get his move this summer after all.

According to Sky Sports, Man Utd have now made ‘initial contact’ with Tottenham as they look towards Hojbjerg as a potential midfield option.

The 28-year-old certainly has a wealth of Premier League experience and would be a capable backup to someone like Casemiro.

Hojbjerg is now into the final two years of his contract in North London and he would seemingly be open to a fresh challenge this season.

Man Utd need two more signings

Gary Neville has suggested that Man Utd need at least two more signings before the end of the transfer window. The pundit believes that additions must be made in midfield and at left-back.

Following the recent injury to Luke Shaw, Man Utd entered the market for a new left-back. Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella is currently considered their top target.

The Red Devils have already submitted a loan offer for the 25-year-old and Chelsea are seemingly open to sanctioning the move.

Neville thinks that the club need to get these two signings over the line or Ten Hag’s side could find themselves under “real pressure”.

“I think they have to try and do something in the transfer market this week. They have got to try and get players out. Some clubs get players out really well – United don’t tend to get players out really well,” he said on the Gary Neville Podcast.

“They’ve got better players in this summer but there’s no doubt they want another player or two – a left-back and a central midfield player.

“I think they need that or else they’re going to be put under real pressure, particularly when all the other competitions kick in.

“There is another one or two players needed just to beef up the squad because of injuries. He does want another midfield player in there to sit alongside Casemiro, so it’s an important week for United before Arsenal [on Sunday].”
