Man Utd ‘inclined to accept’ surprise Prem move for star whose exit doesn’t make sense

Man Utd are willing to sign off on a loan move within the Premier League for a resurgent star who would leave Erik ten Hag perilously light in one position, per a report.

The transfer window headlines at Old Trafford have been hoovered up by varying centre-forwards so far this month. Once Cody Gakpo joined Liverpool, Manchester United have been linked with a vast array of short-term options.

Wout Weghorst appears to be the man Ten Hag has settled on. The Dutchman would add a new dimension to United’s forward line, while also ensuring the club don’t overspend ahead of the real push for a new striker next summer.

With the budget for new recruits this month widely reported to be tight, United’s search for an upgrade at right-back has been put on ice.

Denzel Dumfries is a name frequently linked, though the Netherlands international may be off the table come the summer. Indeed, Inter Milan are open for business right now and Chelsea have been given the green light.

In the event Chelsea are gun-shy and Man Utd are able to ramp up their efforts next summer, the likeliest fall-guy is Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The 25-year-old has proved his worth of late, starting four of five Man Utd matches since domestic football returned.

United haven’t conceded a single goal in those four matches, and Wan-Bissaka even grabbed an assist against Burnley in the EFL Cup too.

However, his attacking limitations haven’t disappeared due to a single assist. He’s long been touted as a poor fit for Ten Hag who wants to dominate possession and have more fluid and attack-minded full-backs.

Wan-Bissaka was listed as being up for sale by the Athletic at the start of the month. A sale would only make sense if United are prepared to sign a direct replacement and given their restriction on funds, that appears unlikely.

As such, it comes as something of a surprise to see FootMercato report Man Utd are ‘inclined at accept’ a loan offer from fellow Premier League side Wolves.

Man Utd, Wan-Bissaka ready to part ways?

Julen Lopetegui’s side haven’t yet tabled their proposal, though it’s noted they maintain strong interest in bringing Wan-Bissaka on board to aid their push for survival.

In the event Wolves do lodge a loan bid, the French outlet are convinced United will accept it.

From the player’s perspective, it’s claimed Wan-Bissaka wishes to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford. That’s understandable given he’s recently been given a taste of first-team football and United have won each of the matches he’s started.

However, Diogo Dalot is back to full fitness and is expected to retake the starting berth. If it’s indicated Wan-Bissaka will be back to warming the bench, FootMercato claim he too will give the thumbs up to joining Wolves on loan.

Of course, the move first relies on Wolves tabling their bid. Secondly, it would also hinge on United signing a replacement.

It would make little sense for Ten Hag to deprive himself of a ready-made option unless a suitable replacement were being lined up.
