Man Utd awaiting West Ham loan offer in January for unfavoured flop aiming for Jesse Lingard repeat

Manchester United are becoming aware of interest in Aaron Wan-Bissaka from West Ham, according to a report.

Wan-Bissaka cost Man Utd a fee in the region of £50million when they signed him from Crystal Palace in 2019. However, he has struggled to justify his price tag. Indeed, the right-back has been criticised for his lack of attacking output.

Therefore, Man Utd were already willing to move him on in the summer, but nothing happened. Since then, Erik ten Hag has used him very sparingly.

Diogo Dalot has established himself ahead of Wan-Bissaka in the Man Utd pecking order. Therefore, the Englishman might have to find a new club in January.

This time, Man Utd are expecting to receive interest in his services. TEAMtalk revealed last month that his former club Crystal Palace, as well as another London side in the shape of Fulham, are keen on Wan-Bissaka.

There have also since been links with Wolves, but now the Manchester Evening News has put West Ham into contention for his signature.

Former Man Utd manager David Moyes has struggled to settle on a preferred right-back at the London Stadium this season. There have been rumours that Vladimir Coufal could be on his way out.

In addition, there have been doubts about whether they will extend the contract of Ben Johnson. It has led to Moyes deploying Thilo Kehrer, naturally a centre-half, at right-back sometimes.

With that in mind, Wan-Bissaka is now on their radar as a potential reinforcement. According to the report, West Ham would like to take him on loan during the January transfer window.

Wan-Bissaka given blueprint to follow at West Ham

It would be a similar move to the one that attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard made two years ago. After being on the fringes at Old Trafford, Lingard revived his career down in the capital.

Ultimately, his return to form did not last, but for half a season at least, he looked like a useful player again and got back into England contention.

Wan-Bissaka, of course, plays in a completely different position to Lingard. That said, if he was to join West Ham, he might be hoping for a similar burst back into form.

The report notes that West Ham have several players from the same agency as Wan-Bissaka among their squad already. Other clients of Unique Sports Management on their roster include Maxwel Cornet, Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell.

Therefore, they could use those relationships to their advantage in the battle for Wan-Bissaka’s signature.

It is unclear whether any loan offer would also include an option for a permanent transfer. The 25-year-old is only under contract in Manchester until 2024, albeit there is an option for a further year in his deal.

In truth, it seems unlikely that Man Utd would want to activate that extension at this rate. Therefore, Wan-Bissaka will need to find somewhere else to settle within the next 18 months.

An initial six-month spell at West Ham might help him return to wider attention for positive reasons if he can find some kind of consistency.

After the past couple of years, though, Wan-Bissaka has a lot to prove still.
