Newcastle ‘not to be underestimated’ in star midfielder chase despite battling Europe’s big hitters
Newcastle United should “not be underestimated” in the pursuit of Adrien Rabiot, despite interest from interest from some “European leaders” as per a journalist.
Financially, the Magpies are one of the strongest sides in the world. That’s thanks to the club’s takeover by the Saud Public Investment Fund in late 2021.
Since the takeover, the owners have invested in the region of £250million on new players.
That’s seen big names such as Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes walk through the door. Those signings have contributed to the success Newcastle are having on the field.
In Eddie Howe’s first full season at the helm, he’s guided his impressive squad to a Champions League spot. Should results go their way on the final day of the campaign, they’ll finish in third place.
That’s a massive achievement for a side that were scrapping at the bottom end of the table when the takeover went through.
There’s no sign to suggest they can’t have a real crack at their first Champions League campaign since the 2002/03 season.
Indeed, not only can they compete with big sides off the pitch, but they’ll be hoping they’re able to be competitive whilst on it, too.
Newcastle should ‘not be underestimated’ in Rabiot pursuit
They’re likely to want to recruit before they make their foray into European football. One man that’s on their shortlist is Juventus midfielder Rabiot.
The 28-year-old has had a fantastic season in terms of goal production for a midfielder. He’s scored eight goals and provided four assists in his 30 Serie A games.
While Juve would likely be very happy if he was to stick around, his contract ends this summer, and it looks as if he’ll be moving on.
Given his good form, he’s got big sides circling for him. Indeed, the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool are hoping to lure him in.
However, one journalist has suggested Newcastle “should not be underestimated”. That’s despite the fact, as he states, Rabiot will be “on the shelves of some European leaders” – interest from big side in England already showing that.
The great period Newcastle have sustained throughout the season bodes well for their chances.
Indeed, big-name players could well see going to St James’ Park as an opportunity to play at a high level. They’ve shown nothing that suggests they’ll not be able to maintain their good run next season.
What’s more, the journalist suggests the Magpies could offer Rabiot an annual salary of €12million (£10.4million approx).
With that being said, Rabiot could see the move as a perfect one. He’d both be paying for a good side who are in the Champions League and making good money.
