Klopp told big Liverpool transfer can usher in new era after selfish star’s sale

Salah Mane Klopp Liverpool TEAMtalk

Liverpool should think about selling either Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane this summer to “kick-start” a new era under Jurgen Klopp, one pundit believes.

The Reds will go without silverware for the first time in three seasons this term, after their Champions League exit. Indeed, their hopes of retaining the Premier League title ended with a woeful run of form earlier this year. As such, the focus now is on securing premier European football again.

Heading into the summer transfer window, however, speculation has circled about potential arrivals and departures to and from Anfield.

As for exits, Salah has publicly entertained links with a move to Spain on two occasions this season.

He will have two years left on his contract in the summer, but Liverpool reportedly feel relaxed about the situation.

According to Richard Dunne, though, Liverpool should sell either him or fellow winger Mane to “reboot” the team.

Writing about a potential “new identity” for Liverpool, the pundit added in his Sunday World column: “They need new players to make that happen. And they’ll have to sell some of the current squad to fund new transfers, which could see Mo Salah leave the club before the start of next season.

“It has come to the end of the cycle with these players and Liverpool need a reboot – and it could take the sale of one of their big players, Salah or Mane, to kick-start a new era.”

Jurgen Klopp downplays Mohamed Salah Liverpool substitution

Jurgen Klopp insists there is no problem with Mo Salah at Liverpool after the forward was substituted early against Chelsea.

Reports have claimed that there is a strong indication from within Liverpool that Salah is ‘considering a change’.

Furthermore, the Egyptian supposedly has a desire to be hailed as the greatest African player of all time.

According to Dunne, Salah – who has won two Premier League Golden Boot awards and ranked as Liverpool’s top scorer in each of his three seasons there – has become selfish.

Selfish Salah told to leave Liverpool

“Salah, or at least the people around Salah, has been flirting with other teams throughout the season and he has the look of a person who is not happy,” Dunne said.

“I’ve seen him when he’s been substituted and he hasn’t reacted in the right manner, what you’d expect from a player like him.

“Liverpool could cash in on him, and then the challenge would be to use the transfer fee received wisely.

“Even though it’s been a rough season, he has still scored goals so they will be reluctant to lose him. But if he’s not happy, not playing at 100 per cent, there’s no point in keeping him.

“Of course his goals are important to Liverpool – but you need your players to be part of the team, to help other people – and I don’t see that desire from Salah now.

“He looks like a player who wants to win the Golden Boot, who just wants to score goals for himself, and isn’t really looking at other options in those key moments in the games.”

Salah, who has scored 28 goals this season, is on course to finish again as Liverpool’s top scorer.
