€25m Arsenal transfer target will move on in January, admits RB Salzburg boss

Dominik Szoboszlai TEAMtalk

RB Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch has admitted he expects to lose Arsenal target Dominik Szoboszlai in the winter transfer window.

According to a recent report from IndexSzoboszlai has emerged as major target for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

The Gunners chief is desperate to add more creativity to his midfield. They in fact failed with a bid to get Houssem Aouar on board this summer.

However, they could have more luck with Szoboszlai. It will also be of encouragement that his Salzburg deal contains a release clause of just €25m (£22.5m).

Talks between Arsenal technical director Edu and Esterhazy have been confirmed by Gazzetta dello Sport.

AC Milan are also interested, while his agent dismissed talk of a move to Germany to sister club RB Leipzig over the weekend.

“Dominik Szoboszlai has no agreement with Leipzig or any other club, except of course his current club Red Bull Salzburg,” Esterhazy told Hungarian outlet Index.

But Szoboszlai looks set to move on in around six weeks time with his coach Marsch admitting as much.

Asked if he was likely to leave, Marsch told Futbol podcast: “Yes. The reality is that a guy like Dominik Szoboszlai is likely to have many suitors this winter.

“He’s an incredbile talent, and I say this: ‘When you coach young players, you have to love them and love the fact that they’re going to move on and love that they’re going to have big opportunities to prove themselves and show how good they are’.

Marsch: I would be ‘surprised’ if €25m man stays

“If you’re only worried about how it affects your success, then you’re not really going to eve be effective at coaching and leading young people.

“So with a guy like Dominik, I mean, I want him to show everybody in the world how good he is.

“So let’s see what happens, but I would be surprised if he winds up staying past winter.

“We play with teenagers, and of course when they do well a lot of clubs get really excited.”

The 20-year-old joined RB Salzburg in 2018 from second tier outfit FC Liefering. He has since gone on to make over 70 appearances and has been involved in a remarkable 54 goals in that time.

The Hungary international is considered to be one of European football’s brightest prospects.
