Jamie Redknapp ‘cannot believe’ what he’s seen from Man Utd as two Ten Hag selections blasted

Pundit Jamie Redknapp has slammed Manchester United after they went into the break 4-0 down to Brentford away from home.

David De Gea set the tone for the match in the 10th minute by failing to keep a simple shot from Josh DaSilva out. He somehow let it go into the net under his arm, giving Brentford confidence they could pull off a shock result.

And the Bees were 2-0 up eight minutes later. Mathias Jensen pressed Christian Eriksen – who was involved in playing out from the back – and won the ball for the home side.

The Brentford man sent De Gea the wrong way to double his team’s lead.

Things got worse for Manchester United in the 30th minute when they failed to deal with a corner. Ivan Toney headed back across goal and Ben Mee shrugged off Lisandro Martinez to get the ball over the line.

Somehow, things got worse for the Red Devils when Brentford caught them on the break. Toney played in Bryan Mbeumo and he held off Luke Shaw before scoring to make it 4-0.

While appearing on Sky Sports, Redknapp reacted to United’s performance by saying: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 45 minutes in the Premier League quite like this, especially a team like Manchester United.

“They’ve not got any heart to them, they’ve not won any second balls, while Brentford have been brilliant.”

Jamie Redknapp shocked by Man Utd display

On De Gea’s mistake, he said: “It’s such poor goalkeeping. Josh DaSilva, two goals in two games. Brentford have won everything, they’ve been too strong for Manchester United.”

On the third goal, fellow pundit Karen Carney added: “Brentford went back post, bullied them at the back post. Eriksen lost his man and Martinez on the line, we said about his physicality.”

Redknapp then blasted Erik ten Hag for playing Christian Eriksen in a deeper role and for using 5ft 8in Martinez at centre-half.

“Someone’s got to take responsibility,” he said. “I cannot believe what I’m seeing from this Man Utd team. It’s like they’re a team who have got the Man Utd badge on but they’ve been thrown out there.

“They’re not showing any responsibility, any care, I think the manager is making mistakes. Christian Eriksen is not a defensive midfielder in any lifetime, Martinez is not strong enough for a central defender and is getting bullied. It just sums up Man Utd.”
