‘Increasingly likely’ star’s Tottenham career has ended, as Spurs overlook Man Utd man in favour of superior replacement

Tottenham stars Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris, Ben Davies and Son Heung-min

A senior Tottenham star looks to have played his final match for the club, and Spurs are overlooking a readymade Man Utd option in favour of a different Premier League player as the successor, per a report.

It’s been a chastening season for Tottenham and for many of their senior stars as well. Indeed, Son Heung-min has crashed back down to earth and provided Harry Kane with little support in the goalscoring stakes.

Eric Dier continues to be a liability at the back, while goalkeeper Hugo Lloris leads all Premier League players in the errors leading to a goal category this term.

David de Gea has also committed four costly blunders, though his errors have come in far more games across all competitions. Lloris’ four EPL mistakes have come in just 25 appearances.

The veteran Frenchman, 36, has one more year remaining on his contract. However, speculation is quickly growing he’ll be turfed out of north London 12 months early.

Indeed, the Evening Standard have been joined by the Telegraph in suggesting Lloris’ Tottenham career is over.

Spurs have two matches remaining in the season, though Tottenham confirmed earlier in May Lloris has been ruled out of the remainder of the campaign through injury. Fraser Forster will continue to deputise over the next two weeks.

Lloris has already been inundated with a lucrative offer to join Cristiano Ronaldo and potentially Lionel Messi in Saudi Arabia. The Telegraph add weight to those claims in their piece.

However, of greater interest to Spurs fans is who will become the club’s first new No 1 in 11 years.

Tottenham veer away from Man Utd option

Man Utd’s Dean Henderson had been touted. The 26-year-old is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest who are keen to sign him outright.

However, if Steve Cooper’s side are relegated, their chances of pulling off what could be a £30m move will crumble.

Henderson is keen to feature regularly in the Premier League next term ahead of forcing his way into England’s plans for Euro 2024. However, according to the Telegraph, Tottenham have a different player in mind.

The publication state Brentford’s wildly impressive David Raya could be Lloris’ successor and the Spain international will have a final chance to impress up close and in person when the Bees face Spurs on Saturday.

Raya has let it be known he won’t sign a new contract with Thomas Frank’s side. As such, Brentford are closing in on signing Freiburg’s Dutch international goalkeeper, Mark Flekken, as his replacement.

That will allow Brentford to cash in on Raya one year before he becomes a free agent. The Telegraph claim £40m should be enough to seal a Tottenham deal for the 27-year-old.
