Pundit claims major free agent signing could transform leaky Man Utd defence
Manchester United have been told that Sergio Ramos could transform Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defence if they sign the Real Madrid legend this summer.
The Spain centre-back has been a target for the Red Devils for some time. However, rumours have gathered pace due to his current contract situation.
The 34-year-old will be out of contract this summer and is currently on the sidelines after having knee surgery.
Ramos is yet to agree a new Bernabeu deal, with some suggestions stating that his decision to have surgery now is a clear indication that he is thinking of a summer move.
The veteran defender is currently available to talk to clubs outside of Spain regarding a free transfer switch.
Ramos has won five LaLiga titles and four Champions Leagues at Real, where he earns in excess of £300,000 a week.
Few clubs can afford than sort of salary, although United and rivals PSG are not in that bracket.

United’s defence has leaked 30 goals in 23 Premier League games this season. But former Newcastle keeper Shaka Hislop believes Ramos would help stem that flow.
Hislop told ESPN FC that Ramos could have a similar impact on United’s defence as Cavani has had on the attack.
Ramos a difference maker
“Yeah why not? I’ll tell you what, I’m hugely impressed with Cavani,” Hislop said.
“I didn’t think Cavani would be as good or as impactful as he has been. Sergio Ramos coming in at the other end of the pitch could probably have a similar effect.”
However, Hislop’s ESPN colleague Craig Burley does not see Ramos arriving at Old Trafford.
“I don’t think that’s a road United will go down,” he weighed in. “They brought Cavani in because it was short-termism and they needed a proper frontman.
“I think given the transfer window in the summer, United are looking for somebody more along the [Dayot] Upamecano age, a younger player.
“That’s where they’ve gone with most of their signings. So I wouldn’t imagine they’ll deviate to a guy who is 34.”
