Mikel Arteta ready to tie down improving Arsenal star to bumper new deal as good run is highlighted

Arsenal are looking to show the faith they have in their stars, as Aaron Ramsdale contract talks may soon get underway amid the Gunners’ good run.

Ramsdale has been one of the most consistent players in the Gunners side since his move from Sheffield United last summer. The goalkeeper missed just one league game following his promotion to no.1 last season.

The Englishman kept 12 clean sheets in the Premier League, placing him fifth across the league. His good performances last season afforded him a place in the England side.

He will no doubt go to the World Cup with the Three Lions next month.

A spot in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad will highlight the form he has managed to keep up during this season. Indeed, he has kept four clean sheets – the second most in the league.

That has been a key detail in Arsenal’s top form. The Gunners are currently top of the league, four points clear of last season’s title-winners Manchester City.

Clearly, Ramsdale is a major part of Arsenal‘s plans currently and for the future. The fact he is only 24 and is already one of the top ‘keepers in the league means he should have a long career at the top level.

It seems Mikel Arteta shares those same views, as The Athletic reports that he wants to renew Ramsdale’s contract.

Ramsdale contract highlights Gunners faith

A new contract for Ramsdale shows just how much faith Arsenal have in him. Indeed, he only signed last season, and was not even the first choice to begin with.

However, he has quickly established himself as one of the best goalkeepers across the Premier League.

As such, it makes sense as to why Arsenal would want to tie him down to new terms, despite his current contract running until 2025.

The report states that the Gunners want Ramsdale’s salary to reflect his status as a starting goalkeeper at a top-six club.

Given he will likely hold that role for years to come, there seems no reason why Arsenal should not make this move now.

With Ramsdale in good form, they want to both show faith and keep him happy. This new contract will likely follow a pattern, that shows the belief the Gunners have in their stars.

Indeed, new contracts are also being mooted for Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba.

As with Ramsdale, those three have been central to Arsenal’s top form this season, and with them all being young, they should fulfil their role in the side for years to come.

As such, Arsenal could be a force to be reckoned with for years to come, after tying down their stars.

The club will hope this represents a move in the right direction, along with the fantastic run of form they are currently in.
