Arsenal confirm signing of £20m man as Arteta, Edu give verdict on newest Gunners recruit

Jakub Kiwior playing for Poland

Arsenal have officially completed the signing of Spezia centre-back Jakub Kiwior in a deal worth £20m, who could play an important role in their title push.

Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta and Sporting Director Edu have already given their verdict on their latest signing and it’s fair to say they are pleased to see the move completed.

The Poland international is touted to be one of the best young defenders in Europe at the moment, so Arsenal fans have every right to be excited about him.

Arsenal currently sit top of the Premier League table after enjoying a quite remarkable start to the season.

After 19 matches so far, they have won 16 – most recently beating Manchester United 3-2 at the Emirates in a huge game in the context of the title race.

However, despite their excellent form, Arteta is keen to make some quality additions this month to bolster his squad for the remainder of the season

The Gunners have already signed Leandro Trossard on a £27m deal, who made his debut against United on Sunday, while they have also been linked to several other exciting players.

Real Valladolid right-back Ivan Fresneda also seems to have a real chance of joining the North London outfit in the upcoming days, while West Ham main man Declan Rice is another of Arteta’s key targets.

What’s for certain, though, is that Kiwior is now an Arsenal player, with the potential to make a real impact this season.

Arteta and Edu ‘delighted’ with Kiwior signing

Edu has reportedly been scouting Kiwior for several months, so he is understandably very pleased to have got a £20m deal over the line.

As reported by Sky Sportshe said: “We’re delighted to have completed the signing of Jakub Kiwior.

“He’s a young talent who we’ve been monitoring for a while now. We are now all looking forward to working with Jakub and seeing his continued development with us.

“We welcome Jakub to Arsenal.”

Arteta also seems to have also been keeping an eye on the Polish defender himself, as he suggested that Kiwior will be a key player for his team this season.

Arteta added: “It’s great that Jakub is joining us. He’s a young versatile defender who has shown huge potential and qualities with Spezia in Serie A, and also at international level with Poland.

“Jakub is a player who will give us strength and quality to our defensive unit. We welcome Jakub and his family to Arsenal and look forward to working with him.”

Indeed, Kiwior has been a top performer for Spezia this season, making 17 appearances in Serie A.

As mentioned, he has also chalked up nine Poland caps already despite being only 22, so he is clearly very highly rated by his country.

It will be a challenge for Kiwior to get into Arteta’s starting XI ahead of Gabriel and William Saliba, who have been excellent this season, but he could still have a huge role to play if he takes his chances.
