Man Utd ‘great favourites’ to sign Serie A sensation as Ten Hag plots game-changing double deal

Rabiot and Osimhen battle for the ball

Manchester United have a fantastic opportunity to sign France midfielder Adrien Rabiot on a free transfer this summer, according to reports.

The 28-year-old’s contract with Juventus will come to an end this month. Now, he is trying to secure a move to the Premier League.

Man Utd are currently in the market for midfielders. So, it will be interesting to see if Erik ten Hag sanctions a move for Rabiot.

Indeed, the Red Devils are ‘close’ to securing a deal for Chelsea centre-mid Mason Mount. But, with Scott McTominay and Fred both linked with departures, Ten Hag may have to bring in multiple midfielders.

As previously reported by TEAMtalk, Man Utd have had Rabiot on their radar for some time. Although, they face competition from Newcastle.

A midfielder with experience at the highest level, the Frenchman made 48 appearances across all competitions in 2022/23. In the process, he scored 11 goals and made six assists.

Eight of those appearances came in the Champions League, which, of course, Man Utd will be playing in next season. Therefore, bringing in Rabiot on a free could prove toe be a great bit of business.

Man Utd ‘great favourites’ for Rabiot

According to reports from Gazzetta dello Sport and AS (as cited by Sport Witness), Man Utd are the ‘great favourites’ to sign Rabiot this summer.

The France international’s contract with Juventus is set to expire on the 30th of June. The Italian giants are still trying to tie him down to fresh terms, however, nothing has been signed, yet.

This has caught the attention of Man Utd, along with Atletico Madrid, who are believed to be ‘increasing the pressure on Rabiot’s mother, Veronique,’ who is his agent.

Although, Rabiot has high wage demands, which may prove to be too costly for Atletico. So, the Red Devils are the favourites to sign him.

Newcastle have also registered an interest in the midfielder in the past. So, it will be interesting to see if they also make a move.

As it stands, Mount remains Man Utd’s transfer priority. The Red Devils are confident they can reach an agreement on personal terms, so the only thing left to negotiate with Chelsea is a transfer fee.

The Blues are looking for bids in the region of £80m, whereas Man Utd believe they can get a deal done for £50m.

Barring any late twists, it seems likely Mount will be playing under Ten Hag next term.

A midfield trio of Mount, Rabiot and Casemiro at Old Trafford is certainly an interesting prospect. So, this is a story to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.
