Euro Paper Talk: Liverpool to trigger £45m deal for exquisite star after Klopp adoration surfaces; Man Utd in bizarre Barcelona legend link

Mohamed Simakan and Dominik Szoboszlai

An attacking midfielder who considers Jurgen Klopp the best manager in the world has greenlighted a move to Liverpool, while Man Utd are being tipped to pick up a departing Barcelona icon – all in Thursday’s Euro transfer gossip.

SZOBOSZLAI SURGES UP LIVERPOOL SHORTLIST

Liverpool are looking at Dominik Szoboszlai of RB Leipzig as an alternative to Chelsea’s Mason Mount.

That’s according to Daniel Nielson, a journalist for Denmark’s TV 2 Sport. The reporter has become the latest source to suggest Szoboszlai as a Liverpool target after a few similar claims in recent days.

All of a sudden, Szoboszlai seems to have escalated up Liverpool’s wish list. It comes after the revelation that Mount – who has been a top target for the club – would prefer to join Man Utd from Chelsea.

Ready for their midfield rebuild, Liverpool need to find alternatives if they miss out on Mount. Szoboszlai is another attacking midfielder who might fit the bill.

According to Nielsen, it would cost Liverpool £45m plus bonuses to sign the Hungary captain from RB Leipzig.

Promisingly, though, Szoboszlai is said to be ‘ready to make the switch to Merseyside’, whereby he would earn his first taste of Premier League football.

However, he remains under contract with RB Leipzig until 2026. The 22-year-old is happy enough with his situation there that he wouldn’t ‘force any moves’.

It sounds like he would carefully consider a transfer to Liverpool, though, so it is up to the Reds to make an offer to RB Leipzig.

Szoboszlai is huge Klopp fan

Two years ago, Szoboszlai labelled Jurgen Klopp as the best manager in the world

“I really like Jurgen Klopp,” he told Csisztu Channel. “The kind of human being he is, the way he inspires the team, that they can come back from any situation. To me he is the best coach in the world.”

This season, Szoboszlai has played 44 times in all competitions for the German club. He has assisted 13 goals and scored nine for himself.

Most of his appearances have come on the right wing. Obviously, Liverpool already have Mohamed Salah there; Klopp would probably plan to use Szoboszlai as more of a central attacking midfielder.

Behind him, it will also be important to invest in more robust, defensive midfielders, to put pressure on the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara.

There are expected to be multiple arrivals in the Liverpool midfield this summer. Alexis Mac Allister of Brighton looks like one of the main priorities, but perhaps Szoboszlai could be in contention too.
