Erik ten Hag declares Christian Eriksen signing an ‘absolute advantage’, explaining how he fits Man Utd approach

Christian Eriksen playing in the Premier League

Christian Eriksen has been described as a “magnificent” player by his new manager at Manchester United, Erik ten Hag – who also explained their transfer approach.

Eriksen recently put pen to paper on a three-year contract with Manchester United after leaving Brentford. It represents a step back up to a side of European calibre for the former Ajax, Tottenham and Inter playmaker.

There will be much intrigue as to how he gets on after getting back into the game with Brentford last season. Eriksen has already spoken positively about the man he will be working under, Ten Hag.

Upon his arrival at the club, Eriksen labelled the ex-Ajax coach as “fantastic” due to his “level of detail and preparation” game by game.

Now, the manager has spoken of his new attacking midfielder for the first time. It seems Ten Hag is equally enthusiastic about working with Eriksen.

“He’s an experienced player. He plays in countries abroad, in Italy, in Holland, a long time in England, so he knows the Premier League,” Ten Hag told ManUtd.com.

“It’s an absolute advantage that we have him in.

“I think he is a magnificent football player and I think the fans will enjoy watching him, because he’s creative, he has ideas.

“I think especially our strikers will also be happy because he’s the one who can involve them in the game.”

Christian Eriksen addition representative of Man Utd strategy for first Ten Hag summer

Ten Hag went on to shed more light on the general transfer approach at Manchester United this summer. They are looking for quality additions, rather than just anybody to fill roles.

And for the Dutchman, Eriksen certainly ticks the boxes they were looking for.

“The fact that we’ve got him, we have him now in our squad, tells everything, because I think we were really selective,” Ten Hag explained.

“It was not the point to get players in, but the right players in. I’m really happy that we succeeded with Christian Eriksen.”

Christian Eriksen is a solid signing for Man United

Christian Eriksen has agreed a move to Manchester United, but they still need several other players in this window.

Eriksen could make his competitive debut for Man Utd in Ten Hag’s first official game in charge, against Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford on August 7th.

Until then, he will be putting in the necessary pre-season work to prepare for what will be a new challenge for both Eriksen and Ten Hag.

Man Utd were well off the pace from where they would expect to finish last season. For different reasons, Eriksen was playing at a lower level than he was accustomed to.

Now, they will be hoping their union can be a bright new start for everyone concerned.
