Newcastle preparing huge double Bundesliga raid, with €70m release clause making preferred deal easy

Newcastle are regularly scouting two RB Leipzig players, and their priority option from the pair can be signed without fuss thanks to a €70m release clause, per a report.

The Magpies are on course to grace the Champions League for the first time since 2003 next season. Liverpool are on the charge having won five straight in the league. However, a six-point gap combined with Newcastle having a game in hand suggests it’ll be too little too late for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

The upcoming summer promises to be a must-see up at St. James’ Park. Greater strength in depth is clearly a must given Newcastle will see their number of free midweeks greatly reduced.

However, to truly compete on two fronts, Eddie Howe’s starting eleven must also be improved.

To that end, Sky Germany reveal two RB Leipzig players are coming under the microscope at Newcastle.

Central midfielder Amadou Haidara and versatile attacker Dominik Szoboszlai are the pair in question.

Sky Germany state both players have been scouted by Newcastle observers ‘several times’. The most recent occurrence came in Leipzig’s 2-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen on April 23 in which, ironically enough, Szoboszlai was red carded.

However, one blot on the copybook isn’t likely to deter Newcastle. Indeed, the report adds that of the pair it’s Szoboszlai who Newcastle’s interest is currently ‘greater’ in.

The 22-year-old Hungary international has bagged an impressive 20 goal contributions for Leipzig this term. He operates primarily as an attacking midfielder, though can also deputise as a second striker or on the left flank.

If Newcastle do firm up their interest, the presence of a €70m (approx. £61.25m) release clause will leave Leipzig powerless to resist.

Leipzig boss Marco Rose does not wish to lose his potent attacker, though the decision may ultimately not be his to make.

Haidara, 25, is a holding midfielder and has racked up 27 Bundesliga appearances this term. He’s not been a regular starter, though Newcastle require a new defensive midfielder to free up Bruno Guimaraes to fill a box-to-box role instead.

Man Utd’s Scott McTominay is another who’d fit that bill. However, Haidara – who is valued at a modest €17m (approx. £14.9m) by Transfermarkt – would represent a more cost-effective option.

The Manchester Evening News recently reported Man Utd will seek around £30m before cashing in on McTominay this summer.
