Chelsea accept record-breaking bid from Prem rival, with stunning switch hinging on player

Burnley have seen a huge club-record bid for Ian Maatsen accepted by Chelsea, and the Clarets now await a decision from a player who thrived at Turf Moor last season.
Maatsen, 21, excelled while loaned to Burnley last season. The lively Dutchman is capable of operating up and down the left flank and was named in the Championship Team of the Season last term.
But with Ben Chilwell a difficult obstacle to shift back at Stamford Bridge, Maatsen was trialled in a more central attacking role back at Chelsea in pre-season.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, a return to Burnley could now take shape.
Indeed, the trusted transfer guru reported Burnley have seen a club record £31.5m (including add-ons) bid for Maatsen accepted by Chelsea.
Burnley’s current most expensive signing is the £16.1m paid to sign Zeki Amdouni earlier this window. The Maatsen bid is almost double that mark.
Per Romano, the Blues would also insert a sell-on clause if the deal crosses the line.
But whether that will happen now hinges entirely on the player.
Romano added Maatsen is yet to greenlight a return to Turf Moor despite Chelsea signalling he can go.
