Arsenal chances of signing thrilling forward soar after Wolves see big Goncalo Guedes bid accepted

Valencia winger Goncalo Guedes

Arsenal hopes of signing Wolves ace Pedro Neto have soared after Bruno Lage’s side saw a hefty bid for Valencia attacker Goncalo Guedes accepted, per reports.

The Gunners pushed to sign former Leeds superstar Raphinha earlier this summer. Their approach was one of slowly increasing bids, though that plan was blown away when Chelsea swooped in with a bid worth roughly £55m.

However, the Blues too were scuppered when Barcelona hijacked the deal. Despite offering a total package worth less than Chelsea, Leeds sanctioned a move to Spain, something that was Raphinha’s clear preference.

Since then, news on Arsenal pushing to sign an alternative has gone quiet, until now.

Both Football London and the Daily Express reported Arsenal maintain a long-standing interest in Wolves’ Pedro Neto.

Yet Bruno Lage’s side are already short of firepower and an exit in this window at least seemed highly unlikely.

However, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Wolves’ situation is about to change.

That’s because they’ve lodged a bid for Valencia’s Goncalo Guedes worth between £25.3m-£27m prior to add-ons. Per Romano, that bid has been accepted.

Guedes coup to spark Neto exit?

Wolves are now preparing the Portuguese attacker’s medical and a long-term contract will be signed if passed.

The 25-year-old operates in a variety of positions across the frontline, including Neto’s position on the wing. The right-footer bagged 11 goals and six assists during Valencia’s LaLiga campaign last term.

The Daily Mail add their take to the story, noting the final fee including add-ons could reach £35m for Guedes.

Regardless, the 25-year-old looks certain to be at Molineux in the coming days and the Express speculate Neto could be sacrificed to finance the move.

Football London also take that view with the Guedes news termed a ‘huge transfer boost’ for Arsenal with regards to Neto.

Pedro Neto worth a punt?

Neto has looked one of Wolves’ most potent attacking threats every time he steps onto the field.

Unfortunately for Bruno Lage, that only happened on 13 occasions last season due to a serious knee injury sustained the year before.

However, the 22-year-old Portugal international looked back to his best during Wolves’ opener with Leeds on Saturday. He caused havoc down the left with Rasmus Kristensen in particular given a torrid time on his debut.

At what price Wolves may seek to cash in for Neto hasn’t been speculated. It’s unlikely they’d be willing sellers, though their financial situation may dictate.

They had been on course to sign Joao Palhinha earlier this summer before Fulham pounced late in the day. The belief at the time was Wolves expected to sell Ruben Neves and Palhinha would be his replacement. When Neves stayed, a Palhinha deal became unworkable.

If it is a case of one in, one out at Molineux this year, the Guedes news will be warmly greeted at the Emirates.
