Bruising striker says yes to Man Utd, but second signing in doubt after Ten Hag pulls the plug

Rasmus Hojlund is ‘eager’ to join Man Utd and Atalanta have named their price after greenlighting a sale, though a second signing is in flux amid concerns over the excessive transfer fee, per reports.

Man Utd are expected to make additions at goalkeeper, centre-half, central midfield and centre-forward this summer.

Kim Min-jae is United’s “main” defensive target, according to Fabrizio Romano. Monaco’s Axel Disasi is a confirmed back-up option, though with Ten Hag blocking Victor Lindelof’s exit and Harry Maguire refusing to leave, a signing at centre-back may be overlooked.

Mason Mount is the player United have turned to regarding the hunt for a new midfielder. However, today’s update centres around the goalkeeper and striker positions.

Dean Henderson is in advanced talks to join Nottingham Forest outright, while loanee Jack Butland has signed with Rangers.

David de Gea is expected to sign a contract extension despite the fact his current deal expires in under three weeks time. However, Ten Hag publicly admitted De Gea has no guarantee he’ll remain first choice if staying.

A high-class back-up who may actually usurp De Gea is wanted at Old Trafford. To that end, Brentford’s David Raya has been targeted.

Raya won’t sign a new deal with the Bees who have already brought in a replacement in the form of Dutchman Mark Flekken.

Thomas Frank’s side hope to generate £40m for Raya. However, according to Sky Sports, both of his would-be suitors – Man Utd and Tottenham – believe that fee to be excessive.

Despite being a regular in Spain’s national team squads and in the prime of his career as a goalkeeper aged 27, United and Spurs are reluctant to pay £40m for a player who’s out of contract next summer.

As such, neither side have made contact with Brentford and if their demands aren’t relaxed, that’s unlikely to change.

In positive news for Man Utd, the Athletic suggest Ten Hag’s striker search can conclude if they pursue a deal for Atalanta hitman, Rasmus Hojlund.

The Denmark international, 20, has enjoyed a breakthrough season, notching 16 goals through his spells at Sturm Graz and Atalanta.

Hojlund memorably bagged five goals in two games for Denmark during the last international break. At 6ft 1in tall, boasting superb physical strength and excellent pace, Hojlund is already drawing comparison to Erling Haaland.

Man Utd are understood to favour a move for a more established centre-forward such as Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen. However, both players will be incredibly difficult to sign and Hojlund is labelled ‘prime’ among their alternative targets.

What’s more, Atalanta are open to cashing in and the player himself wants a move to Man Utd.

Indeed, the Athletic report Atalanta will entertain offers and have quoted a price tag of £40m.

Ten Hag is understood to have personally spoken with Hojlund via video call several weeks ago and the Dane is termed ‘eager’ to sign up right here and now.

Adding further fuel to the fire is the fact Hojlund is represented by the same agency whose co-founder, Kees Vos, represents Ten Hag. Vos is reportedly a regular visitor to United’s Carrington training base.
