Barcelona kickstart Tottenham raid that’ll help Postecoglou land electric £50m forward

Barcelona have held talks over signing a disgruntled Tottenham star who feels let down by Ange Postecoglou, though an exit would help Spurs make a signing of their own, per reports.

Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo report Giovani Lo Celso was promised a prominent role by new boss Postecoglou this season.

Lo Celso spent the last 18 months loaned to Villarreal and by all accounts, impressed while there. The Argentine was frequently linked with leaving Tottenham for good earlier this window, though as yet has remained in north London.

Per Estadio Deportivo, part of the reasoning behind Lo Celso sticking it out was the promise he’d feature heavily this year.

However, the 27-year-old has been an unused substitute in Spurs’ first two matches, with Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp and Pape Sarr all favoured to start in the early going. When Postecoglou turned to his bench against Man Utd on Saturday, it was Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg who got the nod.

Now, according to reliable Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Lo Celso’s future may lay back in Spain.

He reports Barcelona have made contact with Lo Celso’s camp over the past few days. Lo Celso is reportedly being lined up as a cheaper alternative to Bernardo Silva who now looks likely to sign a new contract with Man City.

Barcelona must sell before they can buy and attacking trio Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres and Ez Abde are all reportedly available for sale at the right price.

If Xavi’s side can clear the decks, a move for Lo Celso could take shape. Per Estadio Deportivo, Tottenham will demand around €25m (approx. £21.3m) for Lo Celso.

Lo Celso exit to spark £50m Prem raid?

In the event Tottenham do offload Lo Celso for good, they’ll be better placed to make a firm move for Nottingham Forest frontman, Brennan Johnson.

The Evening Standard claimed a bid is ‘expected’ for the 22-year-old who can play anywhere across the forward line.

Johnson is expected to fetch around £50m if Forest do cash in. However, the Standard stressed Spurs must trim the size of their squad before making further additions.

Selling Lo Celso would be a fine way to start and his exit would not only clear space, but also generate a handy transfer fee too.

Johnson also has an admirer in the form of Chelsea, but why he favours joining Spurs over the Blues has since come to light.
