Aston Villa ecstatic as Tottenham star to ditch Postecoglou for Emery in loss-making transfer
Aston Villa have “concrete interest” in a Tottenham star and a top source claims the player in question does not want to play for Spurs any longer.
Tottenham have ticked off one of the many items on their checklist this summer, with Ange Postecoglou recently confirmed as their new permanent manager.
Attention will now turn to what’s shaping up to be a crucial transfer window in north London. Indeed, with Joe Rodon’s permanent move to Rennes falling through, Postecoglou now has five sub-par defenders he’s expected to try and shift.
Elsewhere, tying Harry Kane down to a new long-term deal and fending off Saudi Arabian interest in Son Heung-min is vital.
However, today’s update regards central midfield and specifically Giovani Lo Celso.
The Argentina international, 27, has spent the last 18 months loaned out to Villarreal over two separate spells.
Lo Celso initially revived his career in Spain under the guiding hand of Unai Emery who is now at Aston Villa.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Villa have “concrete interest” in bringing Lo Celso to Villa Park. What’s more, the transfer guru added Lo Celso is “keen on the move”.
A subsequent update from the Athletic echoed the claims Emery wants to forge a reunion with Lo Celso at Villa.
Now, speaking on the Last Word On Spurs YouTube channel, journalist Matt Law revealed he’s under the impression Lo Celso will leave Tottenham outright this summer.
A permanent switch to Villarreal is beyond the Spanish side’s means from a financial perspective. As such, Aston Villa are seemingly in the clear to sign Lo Celso who reportedly “does not really want to come back to Spurs.”
Law said (via SpursWeb): “I think Lo Celso will go. From what I’m told, he does not really want to come back to Spurs.”
The Daily Mail piggyback on the developments and suggest Tottenham are in line to lose money if selling Lo Celso.
The Argentine was a £27.3m signing back in the winter window of 2020. The Mail suggest Spurs will now seek a fee in the region of £20m-£25m if parting ways this summer.
